The atmosphere of this hotel was one of nostalgia and history. The main lobby has a nice fire place, sitting area, large plants, and even showcases a vintage Ford vehicle -- absolutely beautiful. Also a very nice touch are the old black and white pictures of the original department store being built. The different stages of building, plus the two different establishments it had been before it became a hotel (Bon Marché and Ivey's department stores). Very interesting and fun information. . When the elevator doors open, a woman's voice announces what floor you've reached, "Fourth floor, Women's Department", as a tribute to the department store the building used to be. The lobby area of each floor also housed a nice spacious sitting area and had glass display cases of mannequins wearing vintage style dress. . The room was large and spacious. The old style curved windows were beautiful. The bathroom was very large, sporting a bath/shower combo with sliding glass doors and whirlpool. And yes, even a TV in the bathroom! . The hotel is attached to what appears to be a mall of some sort. We only saw three other stores, and we didn't go upstairs. Also connected to the hotel is Isa's French Bistro -- very quaint, super friendly and helpful staff, and delicious food. And we were given breakfast vouchers for this bistro (yum!). . The staff at Haywood were all friendly and helpful, and the valet service was pretty great. Only took a few minutes and they'd have your car right out front for you. . The location of this hotel could simply not be more fabulous. You don't have to drive anywhere. You walk outside and the world opens up to you. All the little shops, unique and original, are fun and beautiful with very friendly faces and people eager to help. The entire area is so rich in history and so full of life. . Plenty of places to eat, drink, hang out and have fun.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The hotel itself is very cute. The free breakfast at the onsite restaurant was also a huge plus. We had a very nice breakfast and cup of coffee for just a service charge. Excellent perk. However, they are currently doing construction near the flatiron building and so on Monday morning at about 7:00 a.m. construction started. This is nothing of the hotels doing and I think is just a function of staying downtown, but it's something to be aware of. It does seem like a lot of downtown Asheville is being redone and spruced up I'm a witch includes a bit of construction noise! We were offered free champagne at check-in and given little parting gifts. Everybody was incredibly kind and the room was very clean. We would definitely go back!

The hotel location within downtown Asheville couldn't be beat. It was perfect for walking to everything downtown (breweries, restaurants, shops, patisseries, coffee houses). The staff were hospitable and friendly. We were greeted with a glass of champagne. The room was the most spacious hotel room we've ever stayed. The bathroom was a bit dated (maybe purposely), but again extremely generous in size. The water pressure was excellent. The bed was very comfortable, however, the pillows were much too soft for our taste. I love the history of the hotel and the fact that Haywood Park has kept it alive. Lastly, my husband forgot a few items in the closet. I phoned the hotel & spoke with the housekeeping staff. We received the items via FEDEX the next day.

Location is FABULOUS: right in the center of downtown. Valet parking makes that central location work well, especially for us since our central location meant we needed the car only once during our two-day stay. Staff was extremely gracious and helpful, including offering us a glass of champagne or water when we arrived and sending us off with a small but appreciated snack. The beds were clean and very comfortable, and the room spacious. Our booking also gave us complimentary breakfast at Isa's Bistro, and there the food and staff were wonderful.

The hotel is in a perfect location to be able to walk to everything downtown. The staff was very helpful and friendly, especially the valet Seth and the guest service girl in the evenings (sorry don't remember her name). Though a larger hotel, it feels more like a boutique, due to the personalized service.
